Where is the Hackerbrücke?
The Hackerbrücke bridge connects Arnulfstraße in the north of the city center with Landsberger Straße in Munich’s city center. It spans the entire railway yard at the station. It lies precisely on the border and thus belongs partly to the Ludwigsvorstadt district and partly to Schwanthalerhöhe .
The Hackerbrücke is very centrally located in Munich, practically the western neighbor of the main train station . If you’re standing at the main station: all the tracks that stretch out in front of you are spanned at the end of the station by this huge steel structure , the Hackerbrücke. The Hackerbrücke is the first bridge west of the main station for crossing the many tracks.
But the bridge isn’t just a crossing; it’s also a major public transport hub, because the Hackerbrücke S-Bahn station – the first and last above-ground station on the main line – lies directly beneath the steel arches. That’s why there’s always something going on here. And because the central bus station (ZOB) is also located there, all long-distance buses depart practically right from this historic structure.
How to get to Hackerbrücke?
The most convenient way by far is via public transport : Simply take any S-Bahn line (S1 to S8) on the main line and travel directly to the “Hackerbrücke” station . The S-Bahn station is located directly beneath the massive steel structure, so you can access the bridge directly from the platforms via stairs or two elevators. Alternatively, you can take tram lines 16 or 17 to the “Hackerbrücke” stop on Arnulfstraße. From there, it’s a very short walk.
If you’re already at Munich Central Station, you can reach the bridge with a short five- to ten-minute walk by exiting the station on the west side and walking west along the tracks. You could also take the S-Bahn one stop, but it’s not really worth it. And if you’re arriving by long-distance bus , you’ll get off almost directly at the bridge anyway, as the central bus station (ZOB) is located at its northern base. The bridge is impossible to miss.
